Zip Ties Are Inexpensive If you are running a small police force in a rural area, a zip tie is preferable to a handcuff because of their low price. It is also technically possible to break free from handcuffs by applying massive amounts of force from one's arms to cause the device to split apart or loosen enough to squeeze one's hands through however, this takes exceptional strength (especially with handcuffs made of steel). But, it would be truly rare as in a syndrome like Ehlers-Danlos which effects the connective tissue. So, in my opinion and, more importantly, PT Winch's professional opinion, dislocating the thumb to remove handcuffs is not USUALLY a "thing." Might it happen in some rare case? Well, yes.
